The next step...
The time to go home has finally arrived! However, this is only the beginning of your recovery and you have been recommended to begin Cardiac Rehabilitation. Here is what you need to know!
WHO goes to cardiac rehabilitation?
Anyone who has recently experienced any heart related medical condition. This includes having a heart attack, symptoms of heart failure, or recent surgery.
WHAT does that mean?
That’s right, cardiac rehab involves exercise and activity! Cardiac rehab centers are clinics you can go to for about an hour to exercise and challenge your cardiovascular system. Each facility is different, but they will likely have exercise equipment such as bicycles, arm bicycles, treadmills, an elliptical, and a NuStep. All of these will get your heart pumping and your body moving! There will be other people like yourself recovering from heart conditions that want to live healthier lifestyles and understand the process you are going through. Depending on the facility, there may even be group exercise classes so everybody can participate and have fun together!
WHEN should I begin?
You should begin rehab as soon as your doctor tells you to. Listen to your medical team and follow their instructions for how long you should be in cardiac rehab and when you can continue your exercise program on your own.
WHY should I go to cardiac rehab and not just a gym?
Cardiac Rehab is unique because you are monitored to be sure you are safe. Furthermore, a licensed medical team will work with you one on one and create an individual, specialized program just for you! These professionals are trained to analyze how the body moves and how to maximize your daily function. Their job is to monitor your heart as you exercise and make you feel safe as you challenge yourself.
